Methodology
The underlying dog training methodology of SF Dog Connect is simple: Raise your dog like you would raise your child… Allow them to learn and grow in a safe environment where they feel supported and gain confidence every day.
Philosophy
Our philosophy is based on mutual respect and communication. Your dog should trust that you’re here to teach and protect her (just as she does for you). We learn from each other every day. SF Dog Connect is here to make sure you have the best possible channel for communicating with each other.
What dogs do for us
Dogs bring us so much joy. They help motivate us, they make us smile, and they teach us. In SF Dog Connect’s practice, we work with dogs as they help their human counterparts grow. Your fears and dreams show up through your relationship with your dog. Through our dogs, we learn patience, kindness, unconditional love and how to mentor. We literally learn to communicate with another species. It’s amazing, really!
What we should we be teaching our dogs
In return for all that our dogs give us, what do we need to do? We need to teach them how to live in a human world. Just as you teach a child about the world around him, you need to teach your dog…
1. Safety – We teach kids not to touch a hot stove, not to run with scissors, and not to cross streets without looking both ways. We teach dogs not to eat chocolate or dead animals they find, not to chase another animal into the street, and not to bite anyone – even when they are scared or in pain.
2. Skills and games – We teach children to read & write, build sandcastles, ride a bike, throw a ball, and play hide and seek. We teach dogs to sit, stay, come, play chase and fetch.
3. Politeness/manners – We teach kids to say please & thank you, use good table manners and wash their hands. We teach dogs to not jump on people, steal food or bark too much.
4. Confidence – We teach children about all the types of people and animals and objects and noises in the world, and to not be afraid of things. We encourage them to learn and grow to their fullest potential every day. We teach dogs to be social and kind to all living creatures and to not be afraid of noises or new adventures. We encourage them to learn and grow to their fullest potential. And, they return the favor every single day!
